Poetic songs from Anatolia, Istanbul and the region around the Black Sea

After a brief acting career, Sevval Sam recorded her debut album Sek in 2006. She scored a huge success with her passionate renditions of classical Turkish songs.  On her second CD Istanbul Secret's she worked with international musicians including Rob Garza, Benjamin Escoriza and Radio Tarifa. Sevval Sam's succes continued with her new work, including songs from Turkey's diverse folk music. She is without a doubt the most popular Turkish singer right now. In 2007 she was awarded the Best Singer prize by the Yildiz University in Istanbul. Her most recent solo album Karadeniz (Black Sea) is dedicated to Kazim Koyuncu. Of late she has worked with other stars such as Sezen Aksu, Ajda Pekkan and Funda Arar on the CD project Güldünya Sarkilari, which hopes to bring focus to the issue of domestic violence against women. During Turkey Now! 2010, Sevval Sam performs a varied program of poetic songs from Anatolia, Istanbul and the region around the Black Sea.
