Onafhankelijk Toneel - The House of Silence

Based on the novel of the same name by Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk

Turkish author Pamuk creates a compelling account of the doubts and ideological confusion is his country during the turbulent 80s, in which the country seeks a balance between Western and Eastern values, between nationalism and left-wing ideologies. Every year, three grandchildren spend their holidays with their grandmother Fatma. They cross paths with Hasan, the son of an illegitimate child of Fatma's late husband. Hasan joins the nationalist youth movement because he is unable to find his place in the world of Western values in which Fatma's grandchildren are so at home. A catastrophic conclusion ensues.
