Beautiful relaxed impression of melting pot Istanbul

Muezzin Musa falls for his neighbour, the Catholic nurse Clara. The story gets even more exceptional when Musa meets Yakup, who turns out to be connected to Clara. Calmly, in a pleasant rhythym and with an eye for detail, the film paints a picture of diverse, unusual characters. A beautiful impression is created of the cultural and religious melting pot that is Istanbul.  The encounter between Christianity and Islam is beautifully exposed without becoming a dominating theme. This strong debut from Mahmut Fazil Coskun is outstanding amongst the many hot young filmmakers from Turkey. Uzak ihtimal (2009) is a relaxed, simple story which gives plenty of attention to the details of a lonely man's daily life. It is unsurprising that Coskun is the first Turkish director to win the Tiger Award at the Internationaal Filmfestival Rotterdam.
